Job summary

UPMC East is seeking a full-time Patient Care Technician for the rehab unit. The role involves working 36 hours per week across three 12-hour shifts, delivering patient care and supporting nurses in daily tasks.

Responsibilities include assisting with procedures, vitals, wound care as needed, and effective communication with departments. HS diploma and 1 year healthcare exp. EMT/Paramedic training preferred; equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of healthcare experience required.
• Successful completion of basic information system training.
• Microcomputer experience preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive feedback and direct it constructively.
• Identify learning needs and take action to improve skills and performance.
• Establish effective communication with other departments and maintain professional relationships.
• Assist with patient procedures, daily activities, and therapies; report changes to RNs.
• Report equipment malfunctions and ensure communication with relevant departments.
• Contribute to unit activities and onboarding of new staff; participate in department projects.
• Perform essential nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, vital signs, specimen collection) and possibly wound care, EKGs, NG tube management.
• Adhere to safety policies and document patient care accurately; comply with hospital procedures.
• Support UPMC Experience Initiatives like AIDET coaching and 90-day check-ins.

• Core Duties: Performs essential nursing assistant tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collection, and more. May also handle complex wound care, EKGs, and NG tube management based on department needs.
• Safety and Documentation: Adheres to safety policies, documents patient care accurately, and complies with hospital procedures.
• UPMC Initiatives: Supports UPMC Experience Initiatives like AIDET coaching and 90-day check-ins.

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
• Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
• May, in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
