Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and supporting quality improvement activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Patient Care: Assist with patient education, evaluate vascular access, perform dialysis treatment, monitor patient response, document treatment details, and report significant changes to nurses.
2. Staff Support: Assist in training staff on care programs under nurse supervision.
3. Infection Control: Support infection control practices and participate in audits and education.
4. Transition Care: Support newly admitted patients through their first 4 weeks of dialysis, including education and coordination.
5. Physical Demands: Be able to perform heavy lifting, prolonged standing, and other physical tasks as described.
6. Record Keeping: Document treatment data accurately, prepare lab specimens, and ensure proper charting.
7. Qualifications: High School diploma or G.E.D., state/national certification, relevant licensure, and CPR certification.
8. Experience: Preferably previous patient care experience; successful completion of dialysis training required.
