Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) II performs patient care activities, including identifying and responding to abnormal findings, escalating changes in the patient’s condition to the nurse, and activities of daily living (ADLs). The PCT II assists with patient elimination, hygiene, comfort, safety, nutrition, and activity, practicing patient and family-centered care. This role typically reports to the Unit Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 90 days of employment.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• One (1) year of prior patient care experience (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Care Technician) or similar role required, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Proficiency in all Core Competencies of the PCT I and II position as noted in Memorial Hermann’s PCT Competency Based Tool and validated by Memorial Hermann Clinical Education no later than the end of orientation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Performs duties including vital signs, visual monitoring, hygiene, toileting, mobility, nutrition, bathing, charting, and other activities of daily living as needed.
• Ensures timely and accurate documentation; reports any unusual findings to the nurse.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment.
• Follows safety practices, adheres to policies, and participates in safety programs.
• Prepares laboratory specimens within scope of role.
• Helps orient new employees as appropriate.
• Ensures safe care for patients, staff, and visitors; manages supplies and time efficiently.
• Supports professional growth through mandatory education and skills development.
• Creates compassionate, personalized experiences aligned with Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
