Job summary

The START Center for Cancer Research, Fort Worth, TX, is seeking a Patient Care Technician to support oncology clinical trials. You will assist nurses and physicians, perform blood draws, ECGs, vital signs, and prepare patients for exams in a fast-paced clinical research setting.

Required: High School diploma, current BLS, and prior patient care experience. Oncology/clinical trials experience preferred; phlebotomy certification a plus.

Job description

The START Center for Cancer Research (“START”) is the world’s largest early-phase site network, fully dedicated to oncology clinical research. Throughout our history, START has provided hope to cancer patients in global community practices by offering “Hope Through Access” to cutting edge trials throughout the United States and Europe.

We are hiring a Patient Care Technician. The Patient Care Technician is responsible for providing patient care to individuals who are participants in clinical trials that are conducted at START. The PCT uses appropriate judgment and decision‑making in planning and providing care. Care is to be delivered in a manner consistent with the Standard Operating Procedures and standards of practice, and professional evidence-based standards.

Work Schedule: 8:00 am-5:00 pm EST, Monday-Friday

Location: 900 W. Magnolia Ave, Suite 200, Fort Worth, Texas 76104

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assist professional nurses and/or physicians in conducting examinations.
• Discuss patients' condition with nursing team.
• Draw blood and obtain specimens for clinical and research laboratory testing, where permitted by applicable law and organizational policy.
• Take vital signs.
• Perform ECGs.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests and treatments and explain procedures.
• Record necessary information for review by nurses or physicians.
• May assist with clinical research or perform other specialized duties requiring supplemental training.
• Inventory and requisition of supplies and instruments.
• Set up equipment and prepare medical exam rooms.
• Prepare charts and lab requisitions for the next clinic day.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Current BLS certification.

Preferred Education and Experience

• 1+ year of patient care experience.
• Previous oncology and/or clinical trials experience.
• Phlebotomy Certification
