Purpose and Scope
Supports FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and FMS policy requirements.
Functions as part of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in compliance with policies, procedures, training, and regulations. Responsible for machine setup, operation, and maintaining a safe environment. Participates in quality improvement activities to enhance patient satisfaction and achieve FMC Quality Enhancement Goals.
Duties / Activities
Customer Service
- Drive FMS culture through values and customer service standards.
- Provide outstanding service to all customers.
- Develop effective relationships through communication.
- Respond to customer issues promptly.
Patient Care
- Assist in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process.
- Welcome patients, monitor well-being, and report concerns.
- Evaluate vascular access, obtain vital signs, and report findings.
- Perform vascular access cannulation and report difficulties.
- Administer Heparin as delegated.
- Initiate and evaluate dialysis treatment, monitor response, and document.
- Discontinue treatment following procedures, evaluate patient, and document.
- Ensure safety alarms are enabled and perform safety checks.
- Record treatment data accurately and timely.
- Report significant changes or concerns to the nurse supervisor.
Maintenance / Technical
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Disinfect equipment and prepare for treatments.
- Perform machine alarm testing and system preparation.
Clerical & Administrative
- Participate in CQI activities.
- Enter and review treatment data and documentation.
- Prepare charts and lab specimens as required.
Additional duties and Home Program Support
- Assist with home visits, patient education, and supply management.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Includes lifting, prolonged standing, bending, and travel. Must pass Ishihara's Color Blindness test; accommodations considered.
Education and Skills
- High School diploma or G.E.D., with required certification and licensure.
- Preferred experience in patient care; successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification required.
