Job summary

Legent Health in Bellaire, TX is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join our care team. The role provides patient care under supervision, supports nursing staff, and helps ensure a safe, compassionate hospital experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists other nursing personnel in patient care.
  • Reports unusual patient conditions to licensed staff.
  • Makes rounds with oncoming shift.
  • Completes audits, as assigned.
  • Enters charges, as needed.
  • Performs functions delegated by the licensed nurse.
  • Measures TED hose and SCD stockings.
  • Performs oral suctioning with a tonsil-tip suction device.
  • Performs blood glucose monitoring at the bedside.
  • Applies pulse oximeter probe and records readings.
  • Assists with setup of wall or tank oxygen therapy.
  • Empties colostomy or ileostomy bags.
  • Utilizes orthopedic appliances to include braces, CPM machine, crutches, and walkers.
  • Exhibits compassionate care and service excellence and demonstrates Studer Principles and 'must haves'.
  • Facilitates patient movement through the facility, proactively supporting timely admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • All other duties as assigned

About the Role

The Patient Care Tech performs patient care activates within the limits of the position.

POSITION’S ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists other nursing personnel in patient care.
  • Reports identified unusual patient conditions/reactions to licensed staff.
  • Makes rounds with oncoming shift.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificatepreferred.
  • Current and active CPR certification
  • Demonstrates the ability to work under pressure or stress.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Strong assessment, organizational and problem -solving skills as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
  • Ability to function independently and exercise judgement in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families.
  • Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgement to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish priorities among the essential functions of the job and coordinate these functions with others.
  • Demonstrates the ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
