General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician to join our team at Union Memorial Hospital! The ideal candidate will have basic math knowledge, verbal/written communication skills, and basic computer skills.

As a Patient Care Technician, you will function as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse for assigned patients and their families/significant others. You will assist medical and nursing staff with procedures and tests, help patients with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), and perform activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, EKG, and documentation.

Primary Duties

1. Assist patients with ADLs and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, skin care, feeding, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities. Support patient mobilization, use of mobility aids, and transfer/transport of patients.
2. Collect specimens, perform venipuncture, obtain EKGs, monitor telemetry, and insert IVs. Document intake and output, vital signs, and other relevant data in the health record.
3. Perform treatments such as tube feedings, ostomy care, Foley care, dressing changes, wound care, repositioning, postmortem care, and maintenance of medical equipment.
4. Maintain patient comfort, privacy, and dignity. Observe patients, assist in examinations, respond to questions, report changes, and initiate CPR when needed.
5. Ensure cleanliness and safety of patient environments, assist with environmental support, and transport patients as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 12 months experience as a CNA.
• Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification preferred.
• Experience as a care technician or student nurse in later years preferred.

This position offers a hiring range of $19.17 - $33.08.
