Job summary

Trinity Health Ann Arbor seeks a Patient Care Tech (PCT) to support direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. The 32-bed Progressive Care unit handles Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic, and Vascular surgery, with a fast-paced environment and high patient turnover.

The role emphasizes critical thinking, strong communication, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Shifts include 6:30 am-3:00 pm, 2:30 pm-11:00 pm, and 10:30 pm-7:00 am, with full-time or part-time statuses

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of direct care experience or completion of PCT, CENA, MA, or EMT coursework.
• Student nurses must have completed their BSN fundamentals class.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, focusing on ADLs and comfort.
• Assist with bathing, showering, toileting, positioning and mobility using assistive devices.
• Assist with feeding and menu selection, ensuring patient safety and dignity.
• Collect and send specimens (blood, cultures) and manage IV catheter care.
• Document patient information accurately to meet clinical records requirements.
• Care for high acuity surgical patients with frequent monitoring and multiple lines.

Position Purpose

The PCT, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Shifts Available

6:30 am-3:00pm; 2:30pm-11:00pm, 10:30pm-7:00am

Status Available

Full-time, Part-time

Every Other Weekend and Holiday per year required for Full-time and Part-time team members.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What You Will Do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The PCT assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• A PCT will collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• 2 East cares for high acuity surgical patients who require frequent monitoring, multiple lines/tubes, and complex nursing care.
• The 32-bed unit specializes in Core Surgical Services, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery. Additional Surgical Populations include General Surgery, Trauma, and Plastic Surgery; a fast paced, dynamic unit known for High volume and high patient turnover.
