Job summary

Norman Regional is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the Medical Surgical Observation Unit (7p-7a, Night). The unit handles telemetry and medical‑surgical patients, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4–6 and patient care tech support.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • CNA certification or six months of CNA experience preferred.
  • Six months of recent nursing assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Take and record vital signs and relay data to nurse.
  • Provide general nursing care and routine treatments/procedures.
  • Assist in patient processing and coordination.
  • Provide clerical receptionist support.
  • Provide coordinating support.
  • Take on additional department-specific duties.

Job description

Departmental Overview
  • $14.29-$23.34/hr. depending on previous work experience
  • Evening differential $1.50/hr
  • Night differential $1.75/hr
  • Weekend differential $1.75/hr

Our Medical Surgical Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse to patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our patient care tech ratio can range from 8-16 patients. Our care team includes a Charge Nurse, staff nurses and patient care techs with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. We orient new patient care techs with a 4-6 week orientation program with a dedicated preceptor team. Job Summary
  • Provides basic patient care

  • Performs additional duties related to the specific needs of the department
Qualifications
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent GED
  • Certification as a nursing assistant or 6 months of recent experience as a nursing assistant
Experience
  • Six (6) months of recent experience as a nursing assistant
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or one clinical semester of nursing school or successful completion of an acute care nurse aide course; or six (6) months previous experience in a healthcare position can be substituted for the experience

(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).

Licensure/Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained through re-training for duration of employment
  • Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
