Position Details
  • Position: Patient Care Tech
  • Department: Observation Unit
  • Shift: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm, Full Time, 36 hours/week, 72 hours/pay period
  • Facility: Miami Valley Hospital
Role Overview

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a vital member of the healthcare team who works alongside nurses and doctors to care for patients. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring vital signs such as temperature, heartbeat, and breathing
  • Assisting patients with mobility, dressing, and eating
  • Collecting samples like blood and urine
  • Performing basic wound care such as cleaning and changing bandages
  • Reporting patient condition changes to nurses

The PCT works under nurse supervision to ensure safety and proper care. They may also serve as a Unit Clerk (HUC), handling paperwork and administrative tasks to support hospital operations. PCTs are essential in helping patients recover and feel better.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Training: BLS CPR certification required; training provided during orientation
  • Experience: No prior experience needed, but options include:
    • Completion of STNA, CNA, or PCT training
    • Caregiving experience in the past 5 years
    • Current nursing students with clinical rotations completed
