Job summary

Texas Health Allen is hiring a Patient Care Tech (PCT) for the Medical Surgical unit. You will support patients under nurse supervision, collect data, assist with admissions and daily living activities, and document care in the patient record.

The role emphasizes safety, accurate reporting, and teamwork in a fast-paced hospital environment. Full-time days, 7A–7P with three 12-hour shifts per week and rotating weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or Equivalent required for the role.
• PCT training or equivalent program preferred or required on hire.
• EMT-B or nursing-related training may satisfy requirements.
• Nursing students who completed fundamentals may be considered.
• 1 year relevant experience can substitute for certification when applicable.
• BCLS certification required prior to providing independent care.
• CPI training required and kept current.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
• Collects patient data and reports findings to nurse.
• Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
• Supports daily living activities per patient/family preferences.
• Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
• Acts to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
• Enters orders into computer or manual system as applicable.
• Documents care accurately and appropriately.
• Adapts care with nurse collaboration to reflect patient population.
• Incorporates cultural and religious needs into care delivery.
• Keeps patient environment clean and safe.
• Rounds with patients, families, and visitors to meet needs.

Full Time Days (7A-7P)

Here’s What You Need

• H.S. Diploma or Equivalent Required
• Healthcare experience helpful
• PCT Training Program TX CNA, NHA, NAHP, NCCT, accredited community college program or a THR approved program. Not required to maintain certification when applicable after hire. Upon Hire Required Or
• EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) Upon Hire Required Or
• Nursing student who has completed fundamentals or foreign nurse degree program Upon Hire Required Or
• 1 year of applicable experience in lieu of an active and approved certification. Upon Hire Required And
• BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly Required And
• CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Maintained Annually 90 Days Required
• Possesses organizational skills to function in a fast paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.
• Nursing Students who do not complete course of study in nursing but having completed their Fundamentals Training and EMTs who do not formally retain their EMT status may continue in role if they have consistently demonstrated skills in their PCT position.

CARE OF PATIENT/TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Provides assistance to patient according to plan of care.
• Collects patient data, identifies and reports significant findings to nurse.
• Assists in admission/transfer/discharge.
• Provides and Revises patient activities of daily living based on patient/family preferences.
• Performs technical procedures safely and proficiently.
• Takes action to reduce or eliminate patient risk.
• Enters orders into computer or manual system if applicable.
• Documents accurately and appropriately.
• In collaboration/consultation with the nurse, adapts care to reflect patient population.
• In collaboration/consultation with nurse, incorporates cultural/religious needs and beliefs into delivery of care.
• Keeps patient environment clean and maintains safe environment.
• Anticipates patient/family and visitor needs and takes action to meet those needs and rounds as appropriate
