Job Summary:

A Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides basic health care and support to patients under the guidance of the Registered Nurse or designated healthcare professional. Responsibilities include sanitizing and cleaning patients’ rooms, monitoring patients’ health and vital signs, and assisting with basic needs like feeding and grooming.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides basic patient care, including comfort, vital signs, personal care, hygiene, and assisting with mobility.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse, reporting changes or concerns.
  • Provides high-level customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Documents patient care accurately and promptly.
  • Participates in hand-offs and reports pertinent information during shift changes.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
  • Mobilizes patients using therapeutic transfer techniques to foster independence and safety.
  • Encourages patients to complete tasks independently, individualizing care based on patient interests and hobbies.

Education:

  • None required

Licensure/Certification:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) preferred upon hire, must be obtained from an approved source prior to direct patient care.
  • Completion of one of the following is required:
  • Successful completion of nursing aide training OR
  • Successful passing of STNA (State Tested Nurse Aide) if applicable, OR CNA certification, OR clinical nursing program with one clinical rotation, OR 1 year relevant clinical experience.

Experience:

  • Recent experience in acute care, physician's office, home health/hospice, or long-term care preferred but not required.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Problem-solving skills with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional engagement with staff and patients.
  • Ability to proactively adapt in a rapidly changing environment.

Training:

EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training preferred.
