Job summary

Virtua Health seeks a patient care technician to assist with daily living activities and support the nursing team on the Med Surg/Tele Transplant unit. You will collaborate with RNs and LPNs to uphold high standards of patient care.

Responsibilities include vital signs, basic tests, and patient education, with opportunities to contribute to patient satisfaction initiatives. Requires relevant PCT/CNA training and a valid BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; related patient care training preferred.
• Must have completed a PCT course, RN fundamentals, CNA program, or equivalent of 1 year direct patient care.
• BLS certification; phlebotomy training required for ED roles; ongoing education and competency maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, mobility and transport.
• Perform routine tasks under RN/LPN direction and document care provided.
• Take vital signs, assist with point-of-care testing and catheter care as applicable.
• May perform phlebotomy and EKGs where certified; report changes to supervising staff.
• Support patient education and safety; reinforce care plans with patients and families.

Job Information:

Med Surg / Tele Transplant Unit Summary: Under the direction of a Registered Nurse/and or LPN, assists with patients’ activities of daily living and plan of care. Communicates with and supports healthcare team, patients and/or patient’s family or significant other(s). Maintains and demonstrates high standards of professional ethics.

Position Responsibilities:

• Supports the activities of daily living to include bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
• Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
• Performs technical duties as directed by RN/LPN, such as vital signs, point of care testing, bladder scanning, and foley catheter care specific to population served and documents appropriately.
• May perform phlebotomy and EKG’s, if certified.
• Identifies and communicates changes in patient’s status to RN/LPN and responds appropriately.
• Demonstrates standard precautions including the care of patients in isolation and safe patient practice.
• Reinforces education of patient and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
• Participates in Virtua patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
• Participates in the performance improvement activities.
• Assists in orientation of new hires.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:

• Demonstrates required knowledge of basic patient care skills, procedures and standards.
• Must have strong communication skills.

Required Education:

• High School Diploma or Grade Equivalent Diploma (GED) required.
• Must have successfully completed a PCT course, a fundamentals nursing course in an RN program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or have worked an equivalent of 1 year of direct patient care.

Training/Certifications/Licensure:

• BLS certification.
• Phlebotomy training/education is required for the Emergency Department positions.
• Enhances skills through ongoing education and training.
• Maintains regulatory and departmental level competencies.

Hourly Rate:

$19.54 - $29.20 The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant’s experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
