Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Observe and report patient concerns to a RN immediately.
• Assist RN with admission, transfer, discharge and routine care.
• Record vital signs; assist with hygiene and comfort.
• Assist in specimen collection and related tasks.
• Maintain clean, safe environment to prevent infections.
• Report equipment repairs to appropriate personnel promptly.
• Prepare patients for examinations per dept procedures.
• Communicate nutrition issues to RN when needed.
• Support department operations with admin tasks.
• Answer call bells and relay messages to appropriate staff.

Job Overview

Perform nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities, including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Provide high-quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• Must meet one of the following:
  • Nationally certified patient care technician
  • Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification issued by state where services are provided

OH – Nurse Aide through Ohio Nurses Aide Registry

WV – Nurse Aide through WV DHHR/OHFLAC

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior patient care experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Observe and report all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
• Assist the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
• Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures. Record oral intake and outputs (temperature, blood pressure and other monitoring).
• Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
• Assist in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide for safety of patients, visitors and employees.
• Report all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
• Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
• Communicate with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
• Assist department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
• Answer patient call bell and relay message to appropriate personnel.

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in‑services, and competency validation.
