4 Cathcart

4 Cathcart is a 41-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in the care of patients with cardiac conditions and CHF. Many patients are on telemetry monitoring. The nurses also care for patients post-cardiac catheterization and with cardiac drips.

Summary:
  • Delivers patient-centered care, fostering team-focused, collegial relationships to ensure safety and improve outcomes. Maintains competencies in quality care, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates accountability to patients, families, self, and the healthcare team. Supports PAH's Relationship Based Care Model. Reports directly to the Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities:
  • Customer Service: Responds to call bells and intercoms. Manages the 4P’s program (Pain, Positioning, Potty, Perimeter) through hourly rounding. Prepares patient rooms for admission and discharge, maintains cleanliness, and assists with AM/PM care, including baths, oral care, and grooming. Assists with dietary needs, including setting up meals, feeding, and performing calorie counts. Ensures hydration and privacy, addressing patients respectfully and maintaining a quiet environment. Prioritizes multiple requests effectively.
  • Clinical: Monitors vital signs, reports abnormalities, performs blood glucose testing, documents intake/output, and obtains patient weights. Reports skin breakdowns, performs phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and post-mortem care.
  • Safety: Responds during emergencies, manages patient safety devices, maintains fall precautions, and performs safe patient transfers. Handles invasive lines safely and disposes of biohazard materials properly.
  • Teamwork: Stocks supplies, receives and reports patient information at shift changes, and adheres to service standards. Demonstrates trust, respect, support, and open communication within the team. Completes required competencies such as BCLS, Knowledge Link, cultural and population-specific competencies, and others as assigned.
Credentials:
  • Certified Nurse Aide (Required)
  • CNA Certification by the State of Pennsylvania or RN without a BSN
  • BLS from the American Heart Association (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Equivalent experience considered
