Job summary

Lowell General Hospital ICU G Dept in Lowell, MA is seeking dedicated hospital staff to support nursing care. This full-time role (36 hours/week) covers Day/Evening shifts with every 3rd weekend rotation and major holiday shifts.

The position emphasizes patient safety, room prep, and compassionate ADL support. Under supervision of a nurse, you will prepare rooms, transport patients, monitor equipment, assist with meals, and document patient data timely.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • One year healthcare experience preferred.
  • Certified nursing assistant or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
  • Prepares patient rooms for admission.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.
  • Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction and discharge plan.
  • Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.
  • Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.
  • Collects, records and reports accurate patient data in a timely manner.
  • Provides clerical support as needed.

Full time - 36 hours per week / Day/Evening (6:45am-7:15pm) Every 3rd weekend rotation required (Every 3rd Saturday & Sunday) (2 major Winter holiday shifts required and 2 major Summer holiday shifts required)

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of healthcare experience and nursing service experience
  • Certified patient care, clinical associate, certified nursing assistant or equivalent
Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
  2. Prepares patient rooms for admission.
  3. Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.
  4. Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction, and discharge plan.
  5. Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.
  6. Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  7. Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.
  8. Performs technical tasks, i.e. use of glucometer, lift assisted devices, and collect specimens.
  9. Collects, records and reports accurate patient data in a timely manner
  10. Performs the duties of a Patient Sitter and maintain continuous observation of a patient as outlined in the Sitter guidelines.
  11. Provides clerical support as needed.
  12. Greets visitors in a professional, friendly manner and directs to appropriate destination.
  13. Answers phone in professional and friendly manner and directs caller to appropriate person
  14. Screens all persons requesting access to the department for appropriateness of entry. Enforces department security policies.
  15. Completes administrative duties regarding patient admission, transfer, and discharges in an organized and timely manner.
  16. Maintains paper components in each patient chart.
  17. Ensure that the patient and family members are attended to in a caring and attentive manner, responding to the needs of patients/family members in a timely manner and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor at all times.
  18. Works cohesively as a member of the patient care team, anticipating the needs of team members.
  19. Establishes and maintains a positive and caring relationship with each patient, family and team member.
  20. Reports variances in accordance with hospital policy
  21. Participates in department meetings and in-service programs on a regular basis.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting up to 30-35 lbs and turning patients. Prolonged standing and walking. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for performing procedures to operate computer keyboard
  • Requires ability to see computer screen and reports

  4. The ability to recognize patient data relative to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

Pay Range: $20.12 - $25.15 based on full-time equivalent
