Job summary

Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is seeking a Part-time Patient Support Technician for a 12-hour day shift. You will provide direct patient care under RN supervision and support unit operations in a community teaching hospital.

The role emphasizes relationship-based care, patient comfort, and accurate documentation, with duties ranging from basic bedside care to communication and education for patients and families.

Qualifications

• 6 months direct patient care experience within past 5 years.
• Completion of a Medical/Surgical clinical rotation in a nursing educational program.
• Completion of a "Patient Care Technician" program that requires successful completion of an externship in an acute care facility.
• Previous Health Unit Coordinator/Unit Secretary working experience.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates Relationship-based Care to cultivate and maintain therapeutic relationships.
• Provides patient care that reflects respect for patients' rights, dignity, values, culture preferences, and needs.
• Performs bedside care and selected procedures under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (e.g., venipuncture, 12 lead EKG, basic glucose monitoring).
• Maintains an accurate patient roster/census and communicates with physicians, other departments, and visitors.
• Assists with admission processes and documentation, and participates in safety initiatives.
• Proficient with electronic health records for documentation and care management.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Patient Care Technician program (externship)

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification

Nursing clinical rotation completed
