Job summary

Lowell General Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Tech to join the Acute Care Transition Team in the Emergency Department. This role provides nurse-assisted ADL support, prepares rooms, and helps manage patient flow to ensure safe, compassionate transitions for patients awaiting inpatient beds.

The position emphasizes collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, strong communication, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • One year healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under nurse direction, assist with activities of daily living and patient care.
  • Prepare patient rooms for admission and maintain a safe environment.
  • Transport patients and assist with procedures as directed.
  • Operate equipment safely and collect specimens as needed.
  • Maintain patient charts and document data in a timely manner.
  • Provide patient sitter duties and continuous observation.
  • Greet visitors and answer calls professionally; direct to appropriate staff.

High School diploma or equivalent required2. Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationPreferred Qualifications:1. One (1) year of healthcare experience and nursing service experience2. Certified patient care, clinical associate, certified nursing assistant or equivalentDuties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.1. Under the direction of a nurse, performs all aspects of activities of daily living (ADLs) patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety.2. Prepares patient rooms for admission.3. Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient.4. Prioritizes patient care according to nursing direction, and discharge plan.5. Transports patient to procedures/discharge within/from hospital as directed.6. Cleans and operates equipment safely and correctly.7. Prepares patients for meals, assists with meals or feeds patient as necessary.8. Performs technical tasks, i.e. use of glucometer, lift assisted devices, and collect specimens.9. Collects, records and reports accurate patient data in a timely manner10. Performs the duties of a Patient Sitter and maintain continuous observation of a patient as outlined in the Sitter guidelines.11. Provides clerical support as needed.12. Greets visitors in a professional, friendly manner and directs to appropriate destination.13. Answers phone in professional and friendly manner and directs caller to appropriate person14. Screens all persons requesting access to the department for appropriateness of entry. Enforces department security policies.15. Completes administrative duties regarding patient admission, transfer, and discharges in an organized and timely manner.16. Maintains paper components in each patient chart.17. Ensure that the patient and family members are attended to in a caring and attentive manner, responding to the needs of patients/family members in a timely manner and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor at all times.18. Works cohesively as a member of the patient care team, anticipating the needs of team members.19. Establishes and maintains a positive and caring relationship with each patient, family and team member.20. Reports variances in accordance with hospital policy21. Participates in department meetings and in-service programs on a regular basis.Physical Requirements:1. Lifting up to 30-35 lbs and turning patients. Prolonged standing and walking. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.2. Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for performing procedures to operate computer keyboard3. Requires ability to see computer screen and reportsSkills & Abilities:1. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.2.
