Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) in El Paso, TX seeks an Emergency Department Patient Care Technician to support the nursing team in implementing select components of the patient’s plan of care under direct supervision.

You will assist with activities of daily living, promote safe, cost-effective care, communicate and document patient status, and help maintain a calm ED environment. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of EMT-A, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant program is required.
• Current BLS training is required.

Job Summary Functions as a key member of the Emergency Department nursing care team, participating in the implementation of select components of the patient’s plan of care under the direct training of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Director. Promotes exceptional customer service with patients and their families and makes recommendations for improved patient care and the promotion and maintenance of a safe, cost-effective healthcare environment. Assists the Registered Nurse in providing activities of daily living (ADL) needs of patients. Communicates and documents patients’ status.

• Competent in clinical skills required of Emergency Department Patient Care Technician.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to function effectively in a challenging environment.
• Proficient in venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Proficient in waived and moderate complexity testing procedures.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
• Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.

Work Experience

Six months of experience as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or as a Certified Medical Assistant is preferred.

License/Registration/Certification

Current BLS training is required.

One Of The Following Is Required

• Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-A) Certification
• Registered Certified Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
• Medical Assistant with Certified Phlebotomy Certification
• Patient Care Technician Certification

Education and Training

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of one of the following is required:
• Advanced Emergency Medical Technician program
• Patient Care Technician program
• Medical Assistant program
