Job summary

Powers Health in East Chicago, IN is seeking a Patient Care Tech on the nursing floor to provide basic patient care and support as a CNA.

Part-time evenings and nights, 3p-11:30p, 11p-7:30a, every other weekend and holiday rotation; 64 hours per pay period; FTE 0.8.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written skills are required.
• Education equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a certified nurse assistant training course or one year satisfactory work as a nurse assistant.
• Current valid State certification is strongly recommended.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic patient care on the nursing floor.
• Responds to call lights and patient requests.
• Assists with patient mobility and ambulation.
• Transports patients and specimens as needed.

Position Summary

Are you looking for a team focused and energizing role on a Nursing Floor? Then St Catherine Hospital’s Patient Care Tech position may be what you are looking for! The Patient Care Tech provides basic patient care and function as a CNA. The Patient Care Tech practices in accordance with current established standards of care, the Policies and Procedure of the Hospital, the Powers Health policies and procedures, and supports the mission and philosophy of Powers Health.

Job Responsibilities

• Provides basic care to patients under the guidelines set forth according to Hospital policies and procedures.
• Answers call lights, telephones, and/or respond to patient requests; acts on routine requests and/or relays information to proper personnel.
• Serves patient food trays, snacks, and/or nourishment
• Assists with patient mobility, (i.e., lifts, positions patient in bed, transfer between wheelchair and bed, and between cart and bed)
• Assists with patient ambulation as directed.
• Transports patients to designated areas of Hospital as necessary or directed.
• Collects and labels specimens to be sent to the Laboratory.
• Assist with pick-up/delivering of requisitions, supplies, specimens, blood, equipment, reports and other items necessary to ensure the efficient operations of the unit.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and aseptic environment in assigned work areas.

Education/Experience

• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Education equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a certified nurse assistant training course or one year satisfactory work performance as a nurse assistant.
• Current valid State certification is strongly recommended.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform required competencies within allotted time periods.
