Job summary

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA seeks a Patient Care Technician for a full-time day shift. The role supports licensed nurses by performing delegated nursing tasks, observing patients, and assisting with admissions and discharges in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and relevant certification options (CNA, NCMA, NCPCT or equivalent) and be committed to patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required.
• Multiple certification options acceptable (CNA, NCMA, NCPCT or related programs).
• Clinical students with at least one semester completed may qualify.
• Recent PCT/Nursing Assistant experience within the last 3 years is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist under supervision of a licensed nurse with delegated nursing tasks.
• Provide patient care and support admissions and discharges.
• Observe and report changes in patients' physical, mental, or emotional conditions.
• Adhere to patient safety practices and hospital policies.
• Document and communicate effectively with the care team.

Overview

Patient Care Technician - Full-Time - Day Shift

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. Observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nursing.

Education

Certification/Licensure

Must have a HS Diploma and one of the following:

• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT or PT)
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.
