Job summary

WVU Health System in Morgantown, WV seeks an unlicensed assistive personnel to assist in direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will support daily living activities, monitor vital signs, transport patients, and assist with tests and procedures as needed.

Responsibilities include basic phlebotomy (where allowed), respiratory support, safe patient handling, and clear communication with the care team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assist all assigned patients with activities of daily living and bed care.
• Safely transport patients and escorts for tests, procedures, or discharge.
• Transport specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Perform routine tests such as glucose monitoring and maintain logs.
• Provide routine phlebotomy services as directed.
• Record vital signs and inputs/outputs according to policy.
• Provide respiratory support and oxygen setup as needed.
• Encourage use of incentive spirometer per policy.
• Report patient concerns or changes to a registered nurse immediately.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with procedures.
• Assist physicians and RNs during examinations and procedures.
• Assist with basic rehab/physical therapy activities.
• Communicate nutrition issues to RN and document concerns.
• Provide total care within scope when assigned sitter duties.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment to prevent infections.
• Maintain unit equipment and report repairs promptly.
• Support routine unit operations and effective communication.
• Answer phones and patient call bells in a courteous manner.
• Relay messages accurately and promptly.
• Run errands as requested.
• UAP may have limited access to medications during transport of non-controlled substances.
