Job description

Join our team as a Patient Care Supervisor in the Pediatric ICU at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital!

Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, we offer a broad range of pediatric programs including surgery, imaging, neonatal and pediatric intensive care, cardiac and oncology services, and blood and marrow and organ transplantation.

Our compassionate, innovative approach has received national recognition, including a spot on U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Children’s Hospitals" list for 17 consecutive years. We are proud to be Minnesota’s only academic children’s hospital, providing over 50 specialty services.

The Pediatric ICU features 12 beds and collaborates closely with the Pediatric CVICU. It serves patients from newborns to young adults with various medical and surgical needs, including transplants, neurology, neurosurgery, pulmonary, ENT, hematology/oncology, orthopedics, and trauma. The team includes RNs and Nursing Station Technicians, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 or 1:2.

This position involves working 64 hours biweekly across day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends as needed.

The role supports department operations, supervising personnel and projects, and managing aspects like human resources, nursing practice, quality and safety, compliance, finance, and other operational areas.

Job Responsibilities include:
  • Partnering with management to oversee daily operations ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Planning and evaluating patient care activities, staffing, resources, and compliance.
  • Managing equipment and supply inventories within budget.
  • Collaborating with leadership to implement standards of practice.
  • Utilizing quality data and process improvement methodologies to ensure safe, high-quality care.
  • Leading change initiatives and ensuring unit protocols and hospital procedures are followed.
  • Developing and monitoring quality improvement initiatives.
  • Managing human resources to promote positive employee relations and professional development.
  • Ensuring organizational policy compliance and advocating for patients, families, and staff.
  • Driving initiatives that enhance patient-centered care and customer experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • At least two years of nursing experience, including leadership roles.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse with ability to obtain Minnesota license.
  • BLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Over three years of nursing experience.
  • Certifications such as ANCC or AONL.

Additional Information:

The salary range for a 40-hour week is $43.65-$60.40 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Our organization values pay equity and considers internal equity when making offers. The maximum of the range is not typically offered.
