Patient Care Partner - Med/Surg 3 - Part Time

Job Description

Position Summary: The Caregiver collaborates with the patient care team to deliver specialized care to specific patient populations. The role requires maintaining competency in population-specific needs, including physical, communication, safety, nutrition, and psychosocial aspects.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent; no prior experience required.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with patient care activities such as lifting, turning, and positioning using Safe Patient Handling equipment (>35 pounds).
  • Monitor confused and difficult patients.
  • Provide hygiene care (AM/PM), toileting, shaving, washing, dental care, feeding, and assisting with range of motion exercises.
  • Mobilize patients, transfers, ambulation following mobility protocols.
  • Perform simple dressing changes, supervise incentive spirometry, and assist with surgical preps and postmortem care.
  • Sit with patients requiring 1:1 observation for safety or suicide prevention.
  • Accurately record vital signs, intake and output, bowel movements, and other patient data.
  • Collect specimens (urine, stool, sputum), instruct patients, and perform EKGs and basic ostomy care.
  • Transport patients, serve meals, distribute water, and manage nourishment orders.
  • Transport equipment and blood products as needed.
  • Participate in patient safety and satisfaction initiatives, answer call bells, and engage in patient rounding.
  • Report signs of abuse, troubleshoot equipment issues, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Manage patient belongings and ensure proper equipment storage.
  • Recognize emergencies and notify RN/LPN accordingly.
  • Follow hospital policies and support nursing philosophy.
  • Maintain CPR certification, demonstrate cost-effective care, and participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Communicate effectively via phone and computer systems, representing the hospital professionally and courteously.
Other Duties:
  • Assist in training new personnel, accept non-routine work, participate in community activities, and attend unit council meetings.

Pay Range: $17.00 - $23.85 per hour
