Job Description

The employee will work with specific patient populations, maintaining competency in caring for population-specific groups with consideration of physical, communication, safety, nutrition, and psychosocial needs.

Education, License, & Cert: High School Grad or Equivalent

Experience: No experience required

Essential Functions:

1. Participates in the delivery of patient care for population groups under the supervision of an RN/LPN, including but not limited to:
2. Lifting, turning, and positioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment (> 35 pounds)
3. Observing confused and difficult patients
4. Providing hygiene care (AM/PM)
5. Toileting, shaving, washing, brushing hair, dental and mouth care
6. Feeding
7. Assisting with range of motion exercises
8. Mobilizing patients, transfers, and ambulation, following the Mobility protocol
9. Implementing exercise protocols
10. Performing simple dressing changes
11. Supervising incentive spirometry
12. Preparing for surgeries
13. Providing postmortem care
14. Sitting with confused/disoriented patients or those requiring 1:1 observation for safety or suicide prevention
15. Accurately recording vital signs, I & O, bowel movements, ADLs, and activities
16. Collecting specimens (urine, stool, sputum) and instructing patients on collection techniques
17. Completing EKGs
18. Providing basic ostomy care
19. Transporting patients and equipment as needed
20. Serving, setting up, and retrieving trays; distributing water pitchers and nourishment
21. Transporting blood products
22. Participating in patient safety and satisfaction initiatives
23. Responding to call bells and participating in rounding
24. Reporting signs of abuse and recognizing emergency situations
25. Maintaining a clean and organized environment, managing patient belongings, and proper equipment storage
26. Notifying RN/LPN of any changes in patient condition
27. Adhering to hospital policies and supporting the nursing philosophy
28. Maintaining CPR certification and practicing
29. Using resources efficiently and participating in performance improvement activities
30. Communicating effectively via phone and computer systems
31. Representing the hospital professionally and courteously in all communications

Other Duties:

• Assisting in orientation of new staff and serving as a role model
• Accepting non-routine work assignments and participating in community activities
• Attending unit council meetings (70% attendance)

Pay Range: $17.00-$23.85 per hour
