Job summary

Mercy Hospital’s Rehabilitation Unit of the Cleveland Clinic system seeks a Patient Care Nurse Assistant to support stroke and cardiac patients with daily living activities, vital signs checks, and mobility therapies under RN supervision. The role runs 7:00AM–7:30PM with rotating weekends and holidays in a caring team.

Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification; nursing students may require BLS on hire. Military medical experience is welcomed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross; if not held, must obtain during hire.
• Nursing students: BLS required upon hire.
• Military medical experience (HM, 68W, 4N0X1) considered.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review vitals and patient care goals for the day under RN supervision.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Support patient transfers, transport, and use of monitoring devices.
• Report abnormal findings to RN and help keep patient rooms clean and orderly.

Mercy Hospital’s 20-bed Rehabilitation Unit cares for stroke and cardiac patients who need therapies to promote mobility and regain independence. With a “slower” pace and patients remaining in the unit for up to 14 days, caregivers are able to spend more time with their patients and really get to know them. Many of the discharged patients have come back to visit the unit as they are genuinely appreciative of the care they received. By joining this team as a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients. Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include reviewing vitals and patient care goals for the day as well as assisting patients with activities of daily living. A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 7:30PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period)
• Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required upon hire
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $18.25

Maximum hourly: $24.95
