Job summary

Ochsner Health in Baton Rouge is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care under the supervision of a licensed provider. You will assist during visits, document in the EHR, and communicate with patients by phone and in person to ensure timely care.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification, with preferred formal medical assistant training. Candidates should be able to handle confidential information and work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Ensures the patient’s questions are answered prior to leaving; prepares room for next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication both over the phone and in person.
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through personal professional development.
• Handles other duties as assigned effectively and efficiently.
• Meets the procedures of the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs, if working in an occupational health clinic.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Performs other duties as assigned
