Job summary

Compass Oncology in Clackamas, Oregon, seeks a Patient Care Coordinator for the East Cancer Center. This full-time position requires adaptable, multitask‑oriented individuals who can schedule diverse patient appointments and coordinate external referrals while supporting a friendly, patient‑centered environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • At least two years of office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically, manage priorities and handle patient needs with compassion.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments across multiple types (office, labs, chemo) as ordered by the Provider.
  • Coordinate external referrals and assist with patient demographics and insurance data.
  • Respond to patient inquiries promptly and maintain professional communication.
  • Support training, onboarding and cross‑department collaboration.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and reliable team support.

Position Overview

Compass Oncology - the largest privately-owned Cancer Care and Research Facility in the Pacific Northwest - is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our high‑impact team. This role requires someone who is adaptable, multi‑faced, and willing to jump in wherever needed, even beyond their usual scope of responsibilities. In a team environment, collaboration, flexibility, and a proactive approach are essential to support each other and provide an exceptional patient experience.

Employment Type: Full‑Time, 40 Hours M‑F
Location: East Cancer Center (Clackamas, Oregon)
Salary Range: $19.50–$28.47 per hour

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience, expertise, and internal employee equity considerations.

Job Scope

Under general supervision, the Care Coordinator schedules a variety of patient appointments; office visits, lab appointments, chemotherapy appointments and tests as indicated by the Provider. May include outside scheduling and the coordination of outside referrals. Serves as a resource and liaison between patient and other medical staff. Answers incoming calls, triages calls appropriately to the correct department/healthcare provider. Accuracy, efficiency, and excellent time management are crucial. Familiar with standard medical concepts and medical office practices. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.
  • Accurately and efficiently schedule patient medical appointments including office visit, lab, chemotherapy, and other associated ancillary appointments as ordered by Provider in computer system.
  • Assist patient in coordinating external referrals as ordered by the provider.
  • Obtain and maintain accurate patient demographics and insurance information and communicate changes appropriately.
  • Research and respond to routine and non‑routine patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Request assistance from more seasoned coworkers & supervisor on complex issues to discuss resolution and learn.
  • Answer all incoming calls, assess callers’ needs, direct to appropriate personnel. Page clinic personnel as appropriate. Obtain and communicate messages accurately and timely using patient portal.
  • Develop and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships across all departments and staff.
  • Attend weekly team huddles led by Provider to discuss patient cases and work collaboratively to ensure quality care is provided.
  • Actively participate in departmental and inter‑departmental staff meetings, work groups or other collaborative efforts as needed.
  • Act as a resource for all clinic staff to include training, shadowing, and onboarding.
  • Demonstrate reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired.
  • Must possess the ability to apply critical thinking in reading, interpreting, and executing provider orders.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to assess when it is appropriate to adjust priorities based on patient or clinic needs.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate information and questions with others to perform responsibilities effectively.
  • Must maintain a calm, professional and compassionate demeanor in a high‑volume specialty practice.
  • Must be comfortable interacting appropriately with patients, family members and caregivers during times of extreme medical and emotional stress.
  • Proficiency with computer systems; Microsoft Office Outlook & Word, required.

Physical Demands

Work may require sitting for long periods of time; stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and other office equipment. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
