Job summary

Compass Oncology is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our team at East Cancer Center in Clackamas, Oregon. The role schedules a variety of patient appointments, coordinates referrals, and acts as a liaison between patients and medical staff.

The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, experience in a medical setting, and proficiency with MS Office. The successful candidate will support team operations and patient care in a fast-paced clinic.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute provider orders.
  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments including office visits, labs, chemotherapy, and other related appointments.
  • Coordinate external referrals as ordered by the provider.
  • Collect and maintain accurate patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Answer calls and triage to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain confidentiality and collaborate across departments.

Compass Oncology - the largest privately‑owned Cancer Care and Research Facility in the Pacific Northwest - is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our high‑impact team. This role requires someone who is adaptable, multi‑faceted, and willing to jump in wherever needed, even beyond their usual scope of responsibilities. In a team environment, collaboration, flexibility, and a proactive approach are essential.

Employment Type: Full‑Time, 40 Hours M‑F

Location: East Cancer Center (Clackamas, Oregon)

Salary Range: $19.50-$28.47 per hour

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise as well as internal employee equity considerations.

Job Scope: Under general supervision, serves as a Care Coordinator scheduling a variety of patient appointments; office visits, lab appointments, chemotherapy appointments, and tests as indicated by the Provider. May include outside scheduling and the coordination of outside referrals. Serves as a resource and liaison between patient and other medical staff. Answers incoming calls, triages calls appropriately to the correct department or healthcare provider. Accuracy, efficiency, and excellent time management is crucial.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.
  • Accurately and efficiently schedules patient medical appointments to include office visits, labs, chemotherapy, and other associated ancillary appointments as ordered by Provider in computer system.
  • Assists patient in coordinating external referrals as ordered by the provider.
  • Obtains and maintains accurate patient demographics and insurance information and communicates changes appropriately.
  • Researches and responds to routine and non‑routine patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Requests assistance from more seasoned coworkers and supervisor on complex issues to discuss resolution and learn.
  • Answers all incoming calls, assesses callers’ needs, directs to appropriate personnel, pages clinic personnel as appropriate, obtains and communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner using patient portal.
  • Develops and maintains positive and collaborative working relationships across all departments and staff.
  • Attends weekly team huddles led by Provider to discuss patient cases and work collaboratively to ensure quality care is provided.
  • Actively participates in departmental and inter‑departmental staff meetings, work groups or other collaborative efforts as needed.
  • Act as a resource for all clinic staff to include training, shadowing, and onboarding.
  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired.
  • Must possess the ability to apply critical thinking in reading, interpreting, and executing provider orders.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to assess when it is appropriate to adjust priorities based on patient or clinic needs.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to articulate information and questions with others in order to perform responsibilities effectively.
  • Must be able to maintain a calm, professional and compassionate demeanor in a high‑volume specialty practice.
  • Must be comfortable interacting appropriately with patients, family members and caregivers during times of extreme medical and emotional stress.
  • Proficiency with computer systems; Microsoft Office Outlook and Word required.

Physical Demands

Work may require sitting for long periods of time; stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies. Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be normal for telephone contacts. Must view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
