Job summary

VCA Avondale Veterinary Hospital is seeking a caring and dependable Patient Care Attendant to join our Des Moines, IA team on a part-time basis. You will provide compassionate care to hospitalized and boarding pets and assist the veterinary team.

No prior experience required, but a genuine passion for animal welfare and comfort handling dogs and cats of various sizes is preferred. You will lift, monitor patients, and help keep kennels and spaces clean in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with animals is a plus, but not required.
• A genuine passion for animal care and welfare.
• Comfortable handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments.
• Reliable, dependable, and willing to be a team player.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary environment.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Ability to safely lift and carry animals and supplies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care and attention to hospitalized and boarding pets.
• Feed, walk, and monitor animals according to their individual care instructions.
• Clean and maintain kennels, treatment areas, and other hospital spaces.
• Assist the veterinary team with basic animal handling and patient care.
• Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for patients and staff.
• Monitor patients and communicate any changes or concerns to the veterinary team.
• Stock supplies and assist with general hospital duties as needed.
• Provide excellent care and a positive experience for both pets and their owners.
