MercyOne Health System in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp to support the operating room team. The role involves assisting with patient positioning, transport, sterile setup, and supplies, delivering specimens to the Lab, and helping maintain a clean perioperative environment.

The position is full-time with a Day Shift. A high school diploma or GED, English proficiency, and BLS certification are required (BLS within six weeks; training for mandatory reporter

• BLS certification is required within six weeks of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training must be completed within three months.
• Previous experience in a medical setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist OR staff with positioning and moving patients, and setting up equipment and supplies.
• Assist with patient transport when appropriate.
• Order and ensure availability of supplies for the department.
• Maintain a clean and orderly environment throughout the department.
• Communicate with staff, physicians, patients and families.
• Obtain and return x-rays, and deliver specimens to Lab.
• Support trauma room setup and perform sterilization and monitoring tests.

We are looking to hire a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp. As a Patient Care Technician Assistant - PeriOp at MercyOne, Supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned by the physician or RN. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit‑specific. Serves the population from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

Schedule

• Shift start and end flexible. Start between 5:45am and 9am. End time between 14:30 and 18:00. Monday through Friday 3 to 5 days per week. 8, 10, and 12 hour shifts available

General Requirements

• Assists O.R. staff in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to, positioning and moving patients, locating, moving and set-up of equipment and supplies, preparing rooms, and opening sterile supplies.
• Assist with such tasks as patient transport when appropriate.
• Orders and ensures availability of supplies as assigned.
• Perform assigned tasks to ensure a clean and orderly environment throughout the department.
• Communicate appropriately with staff, physicians, patients and families.
• Obtains and returns x-rays.
• Delivers specimens to Lab; obtains blood from Blood Bank.
• Complies with OSHA/JCAHO and other guidelines and policies.
• Sets up trauma room
• Performs sterilization & monitoring tests.
• Pulls and utilizes preference cards.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in medical setting preferred.
• Ability to read, write and speak English language.
• Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. The acceptable credentialing body is the American Heart Association
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
