Description

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities promoting patient-focused care within the Specialty Service. The Patient Care Associate supports the registered nurse in patient care activities, such as assisting patients with activities of daily living, collecting specimens, performing procedures, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and other duties as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Perform and record vital signs, document intake and output, and other assigned data.
  • Obtain patient’s pain ratings on scales, except in Pediatrics.
  • Perform clinical procedures like specimen collection, venipuncture, EKG, application of compression devices, post-mortem care, and skin integrity maintenance, assisting RNs as needed.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, orientation, ambulation, and mobilization.
  • Support dietary functions, including delivering and collecting trays, assisting with menus, and reporting eating pattern variations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment, ensuring patient comfort and room maintenance.
  • Conduct scheduled rounding focusing on toileting, comfort, positioning, and pain awareness, documenting and notifying RNs accordingly.
  • Use Vocera system as per protocol.
  • Greet visitors, answer calls courteously, and provide information as appropriate.
  • Transport patients and specimens, deliver flowers, and perform emergency clean-up when necessary.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge at a high school level to prepare reports, keep records, and interact effectively.
  • Preferred: 3-9 months healthcare experience, venipuncture, and EKG skills.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant/Patient Care Assistant Training Program or equivalent, including EKG and venipuncture skills.
  • Heartsaver Certification from AHA and/or BCLS.
