An established industry player in healthcare is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant to provide essential support to physicians and nurses. Provides technical support to physicians and nurses. Assists professional staff by participating in direct and indirect patient care, including performing EKGs, finger stick glucose tests, phlebotomy, wound care, obtaining and recording vital signs, and managing materials and maintenance as directed by the professional staff and in accordance with approved policies and procedures. Applies a variety of orthopedic splints, applies post-suture and superficial abrasion dressings, and assists patients with correct crutch fitting.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must meet one of the following requirements: (1) Recent experience in a comparable role in a hospital setting; (2) valid current and active certification from an approved credentialing organization (e.g., AAMA, NCCT, AMT, NHA, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA) in roles such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, NJ State Certified Home Health Aide, or EMT; (3) current and enrolled nursing student who has completed and passed the "Fundamentals of Nursing" course; or (4) successful completion of an 8-week PCA Fundamentals Program in lieu of experience.
Previous experience in performing phlebotomy/EKG and basic emergency care, operating emergency room equipment, and computer software applications is strongly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
Qualifications may vary depending on the assigned area. Must perform work accurately with attention to detail, handle frequent interruptions, and adapt to workload and schedule changes. Ability to work cooperatively with healthcare team members, staff, and co-workers. Must be able to set priorities, solve problems, and respond quickly to emergency requests. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential to meet the diverse needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
