Job summary

Miami Children’s Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale seeks a Patient Care Associate to provide direct and indirect care under RN supervision, supporting 24-hour hospital operations and delivering compassionate patient support.

You will assist patients with activities of daily living, record vital signs, perform routine tasks, and help with specimen collection and phlebotomy as directed. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for safe, quality care.

Qualifications

• Completion of Nursing Assisting Training Program or equivalent at a State Approved site which is eligible for Florida CNA examination (OR) Equivalent years of experience
• American Heart Association BLS -maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

Responsibilities

• Receive patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) and perform delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence
• Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, nutrition, hygiene and comfort
• Perform vital signs, heights, weights and other measurements and record in the EHR
• Support phlebotomy, specimen collection and point-of-care testing as directed

Job Summary

Provides direct and indirect care duties under the guidance and direction of the registered nurse (RN). Performs a variety of invasive and non invasive technical skills and specialized patient care procedures as well as other duties to support 24 hours of hospital operations.

Job Specific Duties

• Receives patient care assignment from the registered nurse (RN) in charge. Initiates delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in performing nursing activities.
  
• Assists patients with activities of daily living to include bathing, personal hygiene, nutrition and comfort measures, changing bed linens, and diapers.
  
• Performs vital signs, heights, weights, head circumference & other measurements and records the results in the Electronic Health Record according to nursing and hospital policies & procedures.
  
• Renders care to patients in adherence with written protocols under the supervision of the RN and assists with patient procedures such as; venipuncture/phlebotomy, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens & phlebotomy according to health system standards, Point of Care Testing, ensuring EKG's as ordered, and other duties as assigned.
  
• Informs RN of pertinent information and/or communicates all significant changes in patient condition or behavior.
  
• Recognizes accepted priorities for care needs and takes direction for re-prioritizing from the RN.
  
• Restocks supplies such as gloves, gowns, linen, medical equipment, and assists with room preparation and turnover.
  
• Identifies the needs of the patient and provides necessary supplies accordingly.
  
• Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes/practices cost containment.
  
• Maintains patient rooms and nursing station clean at all times.
  
• Provides encouragement, support, and comfort to patients and family members.
  
• Assists with transporting patients for special procedures.
  
• Performs other assigned tasks to promote efficient practice operation and contributes to the provision of quality patient care.
  
• Greets and welcomes patients, families, and visitors. Communicates information regarding NCHS services and delivers excellent and timely service and support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
