The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. in Boston is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to assist with activities of daily living under licensed staff supervision. You will help with bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support while maintaining patient comfort and safety.

Evening shift, onsite at 75 Francis Street, 36 hours weekly. Eligible new employees may receive a $750 sign-on bonus; base pay ranges from $20.58 to $26.58 per hour, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Experience in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred.
  • BLS and CMA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy.
  • Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
  • Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
  • Assists with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting).
  • Assists with turning/repositioning and moving to wheelchair.
  • Reports health concerns to nurses at the earliest opportunity.

Job Summary

A $750.00 sign on bonus is being offered to eligible new employees hired in our PCA positions.

Summary

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions
  • Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
  • Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
  • Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
  • Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them.
  • Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one.
  • Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

  • Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification] - Generic - HR Only preferred

Experience

Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
