Why Jackson:Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States, where UHealth - University of Miami Health System physicians treat children from throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Holtz Children's is known worldwide for its care of critically ill newborns in its neonatal intensive care unit, which is one of the largest in the United States and boasts some of the best medical outcomes. In collaboration with the Miami Transplant Institute, Holtz Children's is one of only three centers in the country that specializes in pediatric multi-organ transplants. It is home to one of only three state-accredited comprehensive children's kidney failure centers and one of the largest pediatric kidney transplant programs in the world. The Children's Heart Center at Holtz Children's is the only comprehensive children's heart program in South Florida. In partnership with the University of Miami, Holtz Children's also trains the most pediatric physicians of any medical center in the southeastern United States.

Summary

  • Patient Care Associate 2 is a licensed member of the health care team who performs advanced, supportive administrative and certain clinical duties to support the delivery of age specific and a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs.
  • The position may require demonstrating knowledge and skills in specialty area.
  • This is a Level 4 job in the nursing support ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
  • Assists health care team with advanced procedure; prepares supplies equipment; provides patient/family support, assists in positioning patients, sets up/or remove equipment etc.
  • Performs a variety of tasks associated with generalized patient care (vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV lines, drainage, personal hygiene: bath, dressing, bed making/linen changes etc.). Utilizes specialized equipment as needed when providing patient care (spirometer, restraints etc.).
  • Prepares and cleans exam rooms, patient treatment areas and stretchers between patient use.
  • Transports patients to and from treatment areas when needed.
  • Cleans clinic area he/she is assigned to after patients treatment is finished at the end of day according to departmental procedures.
  • Takes and picks up food orders for patient's kitchen evaluation.
  • Assists discharge process according to JHS policies under supervision. Makes daily rounds of assigned work area and initiates work orders for repair as needed and communicates action to appropriate health care team members.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment for patient floor: inventories, orders, stocks, rotates, charges for both supplies and equipment.
  • Assists with office duties as needed, i.e. answering phone, taking messages.
  • Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list.
  • Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Incumbent who is assigned in ER may perform duties include but not limited to respond to medical and other emergency and non-emergency calls, assists the paramedic in providing emergency medical treatment and triage as necessary, and assists in loading patient and provides transportation of patient to a medical facility.
  • Incumbent who is assigned to specialty area may prepare patient for procedure, sterile equipment and assist procedure under medical team's direction.

  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High School diploma is required.

Skill

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area.

Credentials

  • Effective 4/25/2024, ONE of the following is required:
  • A. Proof of completion of school training program for patient care technician AND proof of phlebotomy training
  • B. FL Licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) AND proof of phlebotomy training
  • C. Proof of completion of school training program for Medical Assisting (Phlebotomy is included in training)
  • D. FL Licensure as EMT (Phlebotomy is included in training)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
