Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health is seeking a patient care assistant to support daily living activities and basic care for acutely ill patients. You will help maintain a safe, clean environment and perform EKGs and venipuncture under direction of the Registered Nurse.

The role requires a high school diploma, BLS certification within 6 months, and appropriate PCA/PCT or CNA credentials or enrollment in nursing coursework. Eligible for a comprehensive benefits program.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• PCA/PCT diploma with 6 months–1 year healthcare experience.
• CNA certification or NHCA certification with PCA/PCT diploma.
• Enrolled in nursing program with Nursing Fundamentals coursework or completion of Nursing Fundamentals.
• Evidence of Nursing Assistant training or completion of a training program.
• PCA/PCT, Home Health Aide or CMA experience

Responsibilities

Job description

• Enrolled in an accredited nursing school program and has completed Nursing Fundamentals level coursework in lieu of PCA/PCT diploma/certification OR
• Provides evidence of completion in Nursing Fundamental level coursework OR Evidence of Completion in of a Nursing Assistant training program OR
• PCA/PCT, Home Health Aide or CMA experience

Effective January 2019, St. Joseph’s Health requires certifications for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to be granted through the American Heart Association

About the Team

St. Joseph’s Health officially opened the Totowa Health Campus during a special ceremony that included a ribbon cutting and a blessing by the Most Reverend Kevin Sweeney, Bishop of the Diocese of Paterson. More than 100 people attended the event, including Congressman Bill Pascrell, 9th District of New Jersey; John Coiro, Mayor of Totowa; and Senator Kristen Corrado, of New Jersey’s 40th Legislative District.

The new campus, located at 225 Minnisink Road in Totowa, is a 140,000-square-foot facility that integrates a comprehensive listing of outpatient services, including primary and urgent care, diagnostic imaging including MRI and CT, Radiology, Lab Services and Pharmacy all under one roof. A host of medical and surgical physician offices are located on the campus, including cardiology, urology and gynecology, along with specialty Centers including Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy. This fall, the health campus will also be the new home of a Comprehensive Cancer Center opening in October.
