PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT (PCA) FT - DAYS
Position Summary:
Provide basic patient care to promote the comfort, cleanliness, and safety of all patients, including neonates through geriatrics. Duties are typically assigned by a Registered Nurse (RN).
Essential Functions (Duties, Tasks & Responsibilities):
- Obtain vital signs and accurately document.
- Record Intake & Output and document meal intake.
- Perform general hygiene care as needed, which may include bathing, changing linens, oral hygiene, and dressing patients.
- Make rounds on assigned patients at least every 2 hours and as needed.
- Provide a safe environment for patients and follow guidelines for Fall Risk patients.
- Reposition patients every 2 hours or as assigned by the RN or as patient care requires.
- Promptly answer call lights.
- Other tasks as assigned by the RN.
Additional Duties, Tasks, Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Comply with all hospital policies & procedures (P&P), including employee handbook, department & administrative policies, goals & objectives, performance improvement, safety, compliance, accreditation, survey standards, HIPAA, confidentiality, and infection control.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all external (patients, families) and internal (co-workers, departments, physicians) customers.
- Participate in staff meetings and serve on hospital committees/teams as appropriate.
- Perform work in an effective, organized, accountable, and competent manner.
- Be respectful, courteous, and caring in all interactions and display a positive attitude.
- Demonstrate initiative and ownership in duties and be a self-starter.
- Pass competency and proficiency testing as required.
- Adapt to changing work assignments and serve a diverse community.
- Keep knowledge and skills current through education, in-services, and training; maintain certifications if applicable.
- Promote nursing and hospital services within the service delivery area.
- Function well under stressful conditions involving patients, families, physicians, and staff.
- Report or update nurses or managers on patient care issues.
- Maintain home and/or message telephones and fill in for staff as required.
- Perform related duties, including assignments to other units or offices as needed.
Shift: Nights 7:00 am - 7:00 pm. Schedule varies.
Experience: CNA certification and BLS required.
