Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the professional staff, the Patient Care Assistant in the Med Surg Special Weekend Program is responsible for providing patient care and performing certain non-complex duties related to patient care and unit functioning. The role supports staff by assisting with clerical duties and delivering patient care to varied age groups, while maintaining a calm, caring, and clean environment.

Essential Functions include:

• Performing assigned tasks such as vital signs, intake and output measurements, glucose monitoring, specimen collection, and documentation
• Phlebotomy (within 6 months of training)
• EKG (within 6 months of training)
• Following treatment plans in collaboration with licensed personnel to ensure safe, appropriate, and quality patient care
• Ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction
• Assisting with patient mobility, including turning, positioning, transferring, and ambulation, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Providing safe, appropriate, and quality care and communicating patient condition changes and unit concerns
• Performing 1:1 watches as assigned
• Ordering and restocking supplies within budgetary limits
• Maintaining knowledge of equipment to ensure safety
• Participating in unit-based performance improvement and assisting in orienting new staff
• Transferring and moving patients of all age groups within the hospital
• Respecting patient privacy and confidentiality
• Performing patient-related clerical duties such as updating logs, entering charges, etc.

Schedule

Special pay program: Three out of four Fridays and Saturdays, from 7:00 pm to 7:30 am

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma required; BLS certification provided by Grand View Health
