Patient Care Assistant II (PCA) - Emergency Care Center

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) functions as part of our Emergency Department team, caring for medical and behavioral health patients. PCAs support and collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists, and more to provide safe and effective care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including taking vitals, applying splints, assisting with procedures such as laceration repairs, IVs, and lumbar punctures.
• Assist with department flow, including rooming patients, providing comfort items, cleaning rooms, and transporting patients.
• Occasionally step into the role of hospital unit clerk, answering calls from staff, the community, and hospitals.
• Monitor behavioral health patients as a patient safety monitor, documenting changes, engaging in therapeutic activities, and managing challenging behaviors with de-escalation techniques.

Schedule

Night shift 1900-0730, three 12-hour shifts per week. Opportunities for earlier shifts may be available based on seniority and organizational needs. Weekend shifts include four weekends per 4-week schedule, with specific days as per guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications

Required

• Proven experience as a PCA
• Commitment to health and safety
• Well-organized with excellent communication skills
• Positive, conscientious demeanor and strong ethics
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Completion of a CNA or Medical Assistant program, or enrollment in a Registered Nurse program with at least one clinical rotation in an acute hospital setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• CA Driver's License and proof of auto insurance (for Urgent Care)

Preferred

• Associate's Degree
• Certified Medical Assistant or CNA
• Completion of RN/LVN pediatric rotation
• Over one year of healthcare or unit clerk experience
• Bilingual abilities preferred

Compensation

The expected hiring range is $20.96 to $28.81 per hour. Compensation is determined based on experience, education, licensure, skills, and organizational needs.
