Responsibilities

Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care, as delegated by the RN. Assists in transporting, transferring, lifting, and performs cleaning functions in the patient care unit. Also performs selected diagnostic tests.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

1. Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
2. Monitors and records vital signs
3. Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs
4. Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
5. Obtains and records daily weight
6. Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
7. Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
8. Acts as a patient care companion when needed
9. Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge process
10. Performs unit housekeeping needs
11. Acts as a runner/transporter
12. Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances
13. Updates assigned bed status
14. Maintains a safe environment by responding to bed alarms, call lights, and telephones
15. Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, and reports safety issues and broken equipment
16. Communicates with patients' families, physicians, and unit personnel professionally
17. Acts as receptionist for the unit; uses hospital information systems as per hospital policy
18. Removes saline locks
19. Orders and puts away floor stock
20. Performs 12-lead EKGs where applicable
21. Performs other duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of direct patient care experience

Required Licensure and Certifications:

• BLS-CPR

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training:

• Good written and oral communication skills
• Completion of PCA II Orientation CBO Checkoff
