Job summary

Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX is seeking an ICU Patient Care Assistant II to join our ICU nursing team. This role provides direct patient care for critically ill patients, assists with daily activities, monitors patient status, and supports a safe environment for patients and staff.

The PCA II works under RN supervision, performing indirect care, monitoring cardiac rhythms, and may perform EKGs, glucose checks, catheter care, and wound care as allowed by hospital policy.

Qualifications

• Current Certification in Patient Care required.
• Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
• Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
• Six months previous experience as Monitor Technician, preferred.
• Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred.
• Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred.
• Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.
• Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist ICU nurses with patient care such as bathing, repositioning, vital signs, intake/output, and mobility
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition, behavior, or equipment alarms
• Perform advanced skills allowed at the PCA II level (often EKGs, glucose checks, catheter care, wound care assistance, etc., depending on hospital policy)
• Stock and maintain supplies, equipment, and patient rooms to support ICU workflow
• Assist with transporting patients, preparing rooms for admissions, and supporting emergency response situations
• Document care accurately in the electronic medical record and communicate effectively with the care team

We are seeking a n ICU Patient Care Assistant II , sometimes referred to as an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse Aide, Patient Care Partner (PCP ) or an ICU PCA. Our Intensive Care Unit Patient Care Assistant (ICU PCA ) supports the ICU nursing team by providing direct patient care for critically ill patients. ICU PCA will assist with daily activities, monitor patient status, and help ensure a safe, efficient environment for both patients and clinical staff.

Responsibilities

The Patient Care Assistant II (PCA II) is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The PCA II is responsible to monitor cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitor. May assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to all patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the RN and within the scope of the Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) job description as long as the activity does not distract from primary responsibility for dysrhythmia monitoring.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• Current Certification in Patient Care required (M.A. / CNA / EMT / Paramedic / Patient Care Tech, etc.).
• Current Dysrhythmia Interpretation Certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
