Holland Hospital's 8 Bed ICU and 22 bed Telemetry Unit seeks a patient care assistant to support RN‑led care. Under supervision, you will perform clerical and direct patient care tasks, document data, and help with daily living activities to ensure comfort and safety.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification within 60 days, and preferred CNA experience. Bilingual EN/ES and computer literacy are a plus as you contribute to a high‑quality, family‑oriented care team.

Qualifications

• BLS for the Healthcare Provider required within 60 days after hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists in delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives assignments.
• Documents patient care activities and data accurately using forms or information systems.
• Performs clinical skills including vital signs, aseptic technique, specimen collection, hot/cold applications, simple respiratory therapy, ostomy care, and orthopedic devices.
• Performs activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
• Completes assigned patient duties within the time-frame established by the RN.
• Gathers data including intake, output, vital signs, height/weight, and point-of-care results.
• Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients.
• Observes patients for changes and reports promptly.

CURRENT HOLLAND HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES- Holland Hospital's 8 Bed Intensive Care and 22 bed Telemetry Unit provides state-of-the-art intensive care to the lakeshore communities. Each year, more than 2,600 seriously ill or injured patients are admitted to these units where they receive the highest level of care by a skilled multidisciplinary team. The ICU and Telemetry units commonly care for patients presenting with Sepsis, Respiratory Failure, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, Myocardial Infarction and Stroke among other high acuity diagnosis. Our top-rated safety standards and quality techniques ensure immediate intervention for patients with life‑treating conditions. Under supervision of the RN, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing clerical and patient care assignments as delegated and permitted by law and regulatory bodies and institutional policies and procedures. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area. Pay Range: $16.88 - $23.64/hour Employment Type: Part Time, 48 hours every 2 weeks. Schedule: 7pm to 7:30am, 2 shifts a week, every 3rd weekend required. You will need to maintain this schedule throughout the year. This is not a summer only position.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required.

PATIENT CARE

• Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and/or verbal assignments and direction.
• Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and/or information systems.
• Performs required clinical skills including but not limited to: Vital sign measurement; aseptic technique; specimen collection; hot and cold applications; simple respiratory therapy; post mortem care; ostomy care; and, application of orthopedic devices.
• Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
• Completes assigned patient duties within the time‑frame established by the Registered Nurse.
• Gathers data including but not limited to: Intake; output; vital signs; patient height and weight; and, point‑of‑care test results.
• Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients.
• Observes patients carefully for changes and reports in a timely manner.

STANDARDS

• Utilizes information while upholding the policies and procedures of Holland Hospital to continuously improve patient care, safety, and practice to enhance outcomes.
• Reports patient safety issues utilizing the occurrence reporting system.
• Able to describe the unit based quality improvement activities and implications for practice.

• Provides close care/1:1 direct observation of patients to maintain patient safety as assigned.

UNIT MAINTENANCE

• Performs ongoing supplies inventory.
• Stocks and cleans patient care areas.
• Assists with regulatory checks as delegated.
• Maintains a neat, uncluttered environment in patient room and/or treatment area.

CLERICAL AND RECEPTION

• Performs file, chart, and forms maintenance.
• Functions as unit receptionist by promptly, politely, and professionally answering phone and greeting visitors.
• Assists with requests and facilitates communication between members of the health care team.
• Assists with other clerical/reception duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures.
