Responsibilities

Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. Assists in transporting, transferring, lifting, and performing cleaning functions in the patient care unit, as delegated. Performs selected diagnostic tests.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities
  1. Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
  2. Monitors and records vital signs
  3. Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs
  4. Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
  5. Obtains and records daily weight
  6. Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meters
  7. Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
  8. Acts as a patient care companion when needed
  9. Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge process
  10. Performs unit housekeeping needs
  11. Acts as a runner/transporter
  12. Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel
  13. Updates assigned bed status
  14. Maintains a safe environment by responding to all bed alarms, call lights, telephones, and alerting the correct person
  15. Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, and reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately. Adheres to patient safety precautions.
  16. Communicates with patients’ families, physicians, and unit personnel in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner
  17. Acts as a receptionist for the unit; uses hospital information systems according to hospital policy, including consulting in EPIC, navigating through EPIC, discharging patients, updating tele tracking, maintaining paper charts, and checking on MD orders
  18. Removes saline locks
  19. Orders and manages floor stock supplies
  20. Performs 12-lead EKGs where permitted by the unit
  21. Performs other duties as assigned by the manager

Qualifications

Required Education: High School Diploma, GED, or SRNA

Required Licensure and Certifications: BLS via the American Heart Association

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training: One (1) year of direct patient care experience
