Job Description

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) I performs duties to enhance patient experience while maintaining patient comfort and a safe patient environment. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH, promoting ongoing partnerships between patients, families, and healthcare providers. The care is culturally sensitive and age-specific. All direct patient care is under the supervision of and delegated by the Registered Nurse, following Ohio Board of Nursing guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Performs clinical care duties as assigned and instructed by the RN, following Ohio Board of Nursing delegation guidelines. Meets clinical skill standards guided by the PCA Core Skills Competency Checklist. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Leadership & Accountability: Demonstrates key behavioral competencies such as effective communication, customer service orientation, resilience, adaptability, teamwork, and accountability for actions and development.
  • Environment and Safety: Promotes safety for patients and the unit.
  • Comfort: Provides personal hygiene and comfort measures, documenting as per policy.
  • Communication: Orientates patients and families to the hospital environment and services, facilitating communication throughout hospitalization.
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills: Basic understanding of patient care principles.

Required Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: None required (0-1 years).

Licenses/Certifications: Certification in AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers prior to patient contact. No additional credentials required or preferred.
