CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy seeks a dedicated Patient Care Assistant at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center to support safe and effective patient care. Responsibilities include direct patient interactions, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with personal care needs. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, BLS certification, and strong communication skills to ensure a high standard of care within a leading medical facility.
Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, and cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. Assists in transporting, transferring, and lifting patients. Performs cleaning functions in patient care units as delegated, and conducts selected diagnostic tests.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff.
2. Monitors and records vital signs.
3. Assists with personal hygiene and physical care needs.
4. Measures, records, and reports intake and output accurately.
5. Obtains and records daily weight.
6. Performs blood glucose testing using a blood glucose meter.
7. Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN.
8. Acts as a sitter or patient care companion when needed.
9. Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
10. Performs unit housekeeping duties.
11. Delivers specimens, picks up medications, and other items.
12. Acts as receptionist for the unit; has limited use of hospital information systems according to hospital policy, depending on the unit's needs.
13. Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures, reporting variances to appropriate personnel.
14. Updates assigned bed status.
15. Answers call lights and telephones.
16. Keeps patient environment clean, performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstructions, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions.
17. Communicates with patients’ families, physicians, and unit personnel in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner.
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
*High School Diploma or GED required.
*BLS certification required—American Heart Association.
*Prior experience preferred.
*Good written and oral communication skills.
