Primary Purpose

Performs specified patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse and is committed to the provision of patient-centered/patient-valued care.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have completed or hold one of the following:
  • A formal nurse aide course
  • A current certified nurse aide registry
  • A medical assistant course
  • A current medical assistant certificate
  • A patient care technician course
  • A current patient care technician certificate
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing with documentation of basic nursing fundamentals from the school
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Parkland's job-specific training program
Experience

None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Skills or Special Abilities
  • Demonstrate basic patient care skills and proficiency with supplies and equipment.
  • Effective communication with departmental personnel, nurses, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Exhibit patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
Responsibilities
  1. Perform patient care activities under RN supervision, including hygiene care, unsterile treatments, vital signs, and range of motion exercises; assist with mobility and feeding, ensuring patient-centered care.
  2. Act as a patient advocate by responding to needs and respecting rights and confidentiality.
  3. Monitor patient status, respond to changes, and assist in handling care needs.
  4. Record activities such as vital signs and outcomes accurately.
  5. Maintain knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, and equipment; monitor and report environmental or equipment issues.
  6. Escort patients, perform cleanliness and quality checks, provide translation services, and deliver specimens as needed.
  7. Identify work process improvements and suggest changes to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction.
  8. Engage in ongoing education and professional development.
  9. Adhere to applicable rules, regulations, and policies, ensuring compliance and proper understanding.
