Primary Purpose
Performs specified patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse and is committed to the provision of patient-centered/patient-valued care.
Education
- Must have completed or currently hold one of the following: 1) Certified nurse aide registry 2) Medical assistant certificate 3) Formal nurse aide course 4) Graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing school with proper documentation of basic fundamentals of nursing 5) Parkland's job-specific training program.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
- Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement in the job from one of the following: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Skills or Special Abilities
- Demonstrate basic patient care skills and proficiency in the use of supplies and equipment.
- Effective communication with departmental personnel, nurses, physicians, patients, and families.
- Exhibit patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient care activities under RN supervision, including observation, hygiene care, treatments, vital signs, and exercises, ensuring patient-centered care.
- Act as a patient advocate, responding to needs and respecting rights and confidentiality.
- Monitor patient status and report changes to the healthcare team.
- Accurately document activities such as vital signs and patient outcomes.
- Maintain knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, and equipment use; report deficiencies.
- Escort patients, perform quality checks, and deliver specimens as needed.
- Identify process improvements and recommend changes to enhance effectiveness and satisfaction.
- Engage in ongoing education and integrate new knowledge into practice.
- Understand and adhere to applicable rules, laws, policies, and guidelines, developing controls to ensure compliance.
