Job summary

Cincinnati Children's is seeking a part-time Patient Care Assistant for the Night shift in Cincinnati, OH. The role supports routines for patient care under supervision of registered nurses and includes helping with activities of daily living and safe patient transport.

Qualifications

• One year patient care in the last three years OR completion of the Patient Care Assistant training program.

Responsibilities

• Plan of Care: provide approved care to assigned patients under RN supervision.
• Supervise and assist with activities of daily living and patient transport.
• Assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed and de-escalation as required.
• Communicate patient status and changes in shift handoff; document in medical record.
• Assist orientation and training of new employees.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan of Care - Provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in implementation of interventions under supervision of RN. Supervise and assist patients with activities of daily living. Supervise developmentally appropriate activities. Offers assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties. Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors. Assist with patient transport as requested. May assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed.

Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a frontline example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with Director or designee.

Environment - Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels.

Administrative Support - Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies. May assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following:

• Completion of medical/surgical or equivalent clinical rotation from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution; OR
• Listed on the Ohio STNA registry or Ohio CNA (if CNA is in another state, must receive reciprocity within 180 days of hire); OR
• Listed on the Ohio or National Emergency Medical Services Registry; OR
• One (1) year of patient care experience within the last three (3) years; OR
• Successful completion of the organization's Patient Care Assistant training program, which must be completed after hire.

Requires training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification.

Note: The internal training program is offered periodically based on business need and availability.
