Job summary

Cincinnati Children's is seeking a part-time Night shift Patient Care Assistant in the A7NS Neurology & Neuroscience department. Primary location is Location A, with 0.3 FTE and 12 weekly hours. Responsibilities include implementing care plans, assisting with activities of daily living, de-escalation, and preparation of patient transport as needed.

The role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to care standards, and timely documentation in the patient medical record, under RN supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with relevant patient care experience or training.
• CPR training and certification required.

Responsibilities

• Plan of Care: Provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in implementation of interventions under supervision of RN; supervise and assist with activities of daily living.
• Communication: report patient status changes, document in medical record, seek information when needed, discuss concerns with Director.
• Environment: maintain safe, accessible and efficient work areas; comply with infection control policies; follow safety procedures.
• Administrative Support: respond to alarms, answer calls, assemble charts, stock supplies, assist in orientation of new employees.

Assist with patient transport as requested. May assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed.
• Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a frontline example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with Director or designee.
• Environment - Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures. Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels.
• Administrative Support - Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies. May assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent AND one of the following: Completion of medical/surgical or equivalent clinical rotation from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution; OR Listed on the Ohio STNA registry or Ohio CNA (if CNA is in another state, must receive reciprocity within 180 days of hire); OR Listed on the Ohio or National Emergency Medical Services Registry; OR One (1) year of patient care experience within the last three (3) years; OR Successful completion of the organization's Patient Care Assistant training program, which must be completed after hire.
• Requires training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and maintenance of certification. Note: The internal training program is offered periodically based on business need and availability.
